Depending on the length of the event people start signing up 1-3 months in advance.  I also receive calls within a week or even a day of the event but this is short notice.  The sooner you register the better you can guarantee your participation in the event.  Plant Walks are an exception as we can usually accommodate everyone who wants to participate even with late notice.

How do I know if I need to have a Holistic Health consultation?

If you are tired of persistent health challenges, symptoms and side effects of medications then it is time to get on the positive path of holistic health care.  The goals of a holistic approach involves getting to the root causes of your symptoms and dis-ease and to support the body in becoming stronger in weak areas so that the body can heal itself.

Do herbs really work?

Herbs are not like drugs.  They contain many chemicals, alkaloids, and properties.  They are a whole plant in a natural and unaltered form.  Drugs are typically a concentration of one “active-ingredient” from a plant.  The body undergoes stress when trying to process drugs and tries to detoxify chemical overloads.  Herbs are processed, absorbed, and recognized by the body similarly to the way food is.  When using herbs for healing, the body needs this nourishment long term.  Herbs are usually acting on some deficiency and it takes time to rebuild.

If you can commit to taking herbal supplements on a regular basis you will be rewarded with stronger body functions and lasting results.  Just remember how long it took you to develop your ailment or dis-ease.  Of course it will take time to re-build and strengthen.  You will also receive the benefits of supporting other parts of the body that contribute to your overall health and longevity.  That is why it is call Holistic Health care, because it heals the whole.

How long do I need to follow up and take the herbal supplements?

This is a process of monitoring your progress.  The body can sometimes experience a “healing crisis” when it starts to detoxify and that can feel like a set back, but it is actually a very positive sign.  Just remember how long it took you to develop your ailment or dis-ease.  Of course it will take time to re-build and strengthen, usually 3-6 months.  As changes occur and you regain your health and vitality we will want to make adjustments until you are ready for a long-term maintenance plan.  As you progress through this process we will have less and less need for follow up consultations.

Do you make “house calls”?

Yes and they require an addition cost of $15 for time and travel.

How can I find out more about specific herbs and their healing effects?

The best way to learn about herbs is to study with an herbalist.  I highly suggest that you come to our classes and workshops where you will gain herbal wisdom through hands on experience.  You can learn more through experience than any book or home study course can offer you.

If you do want to use books as references I highly advise that you only consult herb books written by well know and qualified herbalists.

Are their any requirements to become an Herbalist Apprentice?

A sincere desire to learn and expand your skills as an herbalist is the most important requirement.  I work with beginners and people with some herbal experience or background.  When we create a plan for your apprentice program it is essential that you make a commitment to it and follow through with your plans.  Apprenticeships can range from 3 months to a yearlong.

Do you recommend any books or other resources to learn about holistic health?

I would be happy to discuss your interests and make book recommendations to you.  It is best to call or email me with you specific interests.

If I am taking medication what herbs should I avoid?

There are some herbs that are contraindicated when taking specific medications.  The good news is that the majority of herbs have no contraindications and are safe to use anytime.  The bad news is that the list of contraindications will never be complete as new drugs are manufactured and as we continue to learn more about plant constituents.  Call or email if you want resources where you can find more information.

Can I use herbs instead of taking my medication?

Many people are interested in getting off their medication and utilizing herbal supplements.  In many cases this can be achieved with careful monitoring in a gradual process.  It will largely depend on your disease, your medication and your overall health and vitality.  When you do a little research you may be pleasantly surprised to discover the tremendous beneficial effects that herbal supplements are having on healing diseases every day.

How do I know Natural Vitality herbal products are high quality?

You can be assured that as a community herbalist I have the deepest respect and appreciation for the plants and for the remedies I make.  All plants are ethically harvested in their natural environment with great respect for their future reproduction.  Cultivated plants are 100% organically grown on herb farms.  All products are made by hand and in small batches, which makes monitoring their quality much easier than being a large commercial operation.

Where do you harvest the herbs?

Plants are harvested in remote natural environments and on private land where there has been no exposure to pesticides, carbon monoxide, polluted soils or contaminated water.

Is Shamanism a religion?

Shamanism is not an organized religion, nor is it a cult or a movement.  Shamanism is an ancient tribal practice of healing the spirit and body through consciousness and spiritual guidance.  Today contemporary shamanism can be described as a method of accessing deep levels of consciousness to support the healing process of emotional, mental and even physical health and vitality.  In our shamanic journey sessions you are encouraged to integrate your own personal spirituality or religion when accessing deeper levels of consciousness and guidance.
